My name is Steve Sutton, I am 44 years old and have been a keen cyclist since I was a young teenager. At the age of 14, I joined a village cycling club with my parents where I enjoyed weekend tours and annual European cycling tours. This sparked my love of touring, exploring and discovering the most incredible cycle routes and scenery (and coffee stops!).
Cycling took a back seat in more recent years due to family commitments - namely having 3 young children. During the COVID lockdown, I decided to take the opportunity to get back into cycling and set myself the challenge of training to be able to cycle from Colchester to Manchester. It was at this moment that the idea of the Three Chesters Cycle Challenge (3CCC) was born!
During my training, I learned about nutrition and diet, exercise and stretches to optimise performance. I discovered amazing cycle routes of between 50 – 90 miles around Essex and Suffolk, all starting from Colchester. I also spent days pouring over maps and researching to find the most scenic, exciting and safe route to cycle the 260 mile trip to Manchester. Having now cycled the Three Chesters Cycle Challenge (3CCC) a number of times I have perfected the route, found the best coffee, lunch, photo opportunities and toilet stops, as well as hotels and restaurants.
I am outdoor first aid trained and a qualified tour leader. I'm passionate about enabling others to share this amazing experience and achievement. The challenge offers participants the opportunity to raise funds for their chosen charity and enables me to live my lifelong dream of creating a lifestyle business for myself.
